A Scenic Escape by the Lake
If you’re planning a luxury golf getaway or a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature, Spring City Golf & Lake Resort in Kunming is a destination that should be high on your list. Tucked away by the serene Yangzonghai Lake, this resort offers not only two world-class golf courses but also panoramic lake views, spacious rooms, and a surprising touch of Singaporean hospitality. Here’s everything you need to know before booking your stay.
Getting There: A Private Journey into Tranquility
Spring City Golf & Lake Resort is located about 1.5 to 2 hours by car from Kunming Changshui International Airport. Our arrival was a late-night adventure—we touched down around 2am, and by the time our private driver (arranged by the resort) navigated the quiet roads, it was close to 3:30am when we checked in. Despite the long journey, the smooth drive and peaceful nightscape set the tone for a calming retreat ahead.
Tip:
Arrange your transfer in advance through the resort for a seamless arrival,
especially if you’re landing at odd hours.
Rooms: Countryside Comfort with a Golfer’s Touch
The rooms are spacious and thoughtfully-decorated, reflecting a countryside golf resort aesthetic. Expect wooden accents, neutral tones, and subtle golf-themed decor—like mounted golf irons on the wall.
My room came with a private balcony overlooking the lake, and waking up to the soft morning mist or catching the sunset over the water was truly magical. If you’re looking for a quiet recharge in nature, this view alone is worth the stay.
Facilities: More Than Just a Golf Resort
Beyond the fairways, Spring City Resort boasts an impressive range of amenities that cater to both golfers and families:
- Karaoke lounge with private rooms
- Poker room
- Kids’ playroom
- Spa and massage center for post-game relaxation
- Golf retail therapy: a Honma flagship store plus a large pro shop carrying brands like Nike, Adidas, Descente, Fila, and both Japanese and Korean labels
- Cafes and restaurants, including one that serves beloved Singaporean dishes like laksa, kaya toast, and teh tarik—a nod to the resort’s Singaporean roots via Keppel Land ownership
Whether you’re visiting with friends, family, or on a solo golf holiday, there’s plenty to explore.

Golf: Two Breathtaking Courses with Very Different Vibes
Spring City is renowned for its Lake Course and Mountain Course, both offering unique challenges and stunning landscapes.
- The Lake Course was my personal favorite—set against the shimmering water and dotted with ducks, it’s as serene as it is technical. Every hole had its own personality, and the cold, crisp air (we played in 2°C at sunrise!) added to the dramatic atmosphere.
- The Mountain Course, played on the second day, was more beginner-friendly and slightly warmer with more sun. Still scenic, but more forgiving.
Both courses are beautifully maintained, and our caddies were excellent—friendly, professional, and well-versed in the game.
Golf tip:
Bring layers! Kunming’s mornings, especially in winter, can be surprisingly chilly.

Dining: From Laksa to Truffle Pizza
The resort offers multiple dining options to satisfy different palates.
- The golf café near the pro shop serves Singaporean favorites like laksa and kaya toast, perfect for a casual bite before or after a round.
- The main restaurant by the hotel provides a buffet breakfast featuring both Chinese and Western dishes. One standout: the local beef noodles, which my dad absolutely raved about. For lunch and dinner, the restaurant switches to à la carte, where we enjoyed surprisingly good Western dishes. I had a crispy fish burger, while the truffle pizza was a hit with our table. These might have been seasonal additions for the Christmas/New Year period, but they were a pleasant surprise.
While not fine dining, the food was reliably good — comforting, hearty, and satisfying after a long day out on the course.
Final Thoughts
Spring City Golf & Lake Resort is the kind of place where you can unplug and fully immerse yourself in nature — whether you’re perfecting your swing on the championship greens, indulging in a lakeside sunset, or singing your heart out in a private karaoke room. It’s not just a golfer’s paradise—it’s a well-rounded resort perfect for families, couples, and anyone craving a luxurious escape from the city.
